*: Note about Vector Graphics from Wolfgang Suttrop:
For viewgraphs, posters etc. we should use vector graphics, because

a) The drawing can be zoomed to any size without loss of quality,
b) The drawing elements are retained as entities and can, e.g. be edited with a suitable
drawing program.

Vector graphics formats I know to be useful on many platforms are:

.eps Encapsulated PostScript, preferrable in its EPSI form (ascii, with included bitmap
preview) [the other flavor, EPSF, is binary and cannot be read by all programs]
